How Do We Calculate How Many Calories Are Burned During Golf?

Our calories burned calculator during golf calculator is based on data collected and generously published for free by The Compendium of Physical Activities.

Every physical activity corresponds to a Metabolic Equivalent or MET value. The average MET throughout a game of golf, including driving the golf cart, standing, walking, and hitting the ball, is 4.8.

One MET is defined as the amount of energy burned while sitting at rest. This equates to 3.5 ml of oxygen consumed per kg of body weight per minute.

This means that an activity with a MET of 4.8, such as golf, burns 4.8 times as much energy per minute as sitting at rest.

Once we know the MET value of a certain activity, all that we need to estimate calories burned doing said activity (i.e. energy used) is the weight of the individual carrying out the activity and the duration of the activity.

Formula For Calories Burned During Golf:

Calories Burned = Activity Duration In Minutes x (MET x 3.5 x Weight) / 200

The MET of playing golf is 4.8. Therefore, the complete formula is:

Calories Burned = Activity Duration In Minutes x (4.8 x 3.5 x Weight) / 200

Limitations Of The Calculator

Calories burned also depend on body typefitness, the ratio of muscle to fat, and local conditions such as temperaturewind, and humidity.
