Tiger Woods Accident: Bad Year in Golf Just Got Worse

Tiger Woods Accident: Bad Year in Golf Just Got Worse 1

UPDATE: Tiger Woods released a statement on Sunday afternoon.

IT’S ODD TO THINK that the biggest golf story of the year happened in the early morning hours of November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. But that may be the case. As you’ve probably heard by now, Tiger Woods was involved in a single-car accident outside his home in Isleworth, a gated community in Orlando, Florida.

According to reports, Tiger, driving a Cadillac Escalade, struck a fire hydrant and tree at a fairly low speed. (The airbags didn’t deploy.) His wife, Elin, hearing the accident from inside the couple’s house, came to Tiger’s aid. She broke the back window of the vehicle with a golf club to rescue her husband. Tiger had cuts and blood in his mouth, and was unconscious for several minutes. He was treated at a local hospital and released.

The good news: Tiger is apparently OK. The bad news: the story doesn’t end there.

The accident came just two days after the National Enquirer published a story that Tiger was having an affair with Rachel Uchitel, the Director of VIP Services for Pink Elephant, a company involved in the nightclub scene. Ryan Ballengee of Waggle Room interviewed Uchitel on Friday and published her denial early Saturday morning. (Other outlets have also reported that she denied the affair, including the Associated Press.)

Late on Friday celebrity news site TMZ.com wrote that Tiger’s facial scratches were, instead, the result of a domestic dispute with his wife. TMZ.com also wrote, “… but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club.”

I don’t know what’s fact and what’s fiction. I do know the feeding frenzy has only just begun and that this story must be the worst-possible nightmare for the intensely private world No. 1 golfer. Bad news for Tiger is almost always bad news for golf.

2009 was already set to go into the books as a dismal year in golf. It just got worse.

  3. Why do these wealthy athletes get away with not cooperating in a police investigation, its obvious that his story has to be told just right in order to save his huge endorsement deals, do I, a common poor man have the right to say nah, i dont want to talk to the police about this, I doubt it. the point is the story will be whatever keeps the most cash flowing, not the truth. meanwhile, common people are told by the police and the rich get asked by the police. Is this what was meant by all men are created equal, I would encourage all to hinder a police investigation and when you get jail time from it sue for discrimination (because your probably not a wealthy pro athlete with endorsement on the line).

  4. How many wealthy athletes are going to oppose a police investigation and get away with it? It really grinds my gears, but i am just a common man who would be ticketed at least for not cooperating, from what i understand he refused certain test too. That's grounds for immediate license suspension and I believe so is not cooperating with an accident investigation. However, if Tiger wants this to remain a private matter, he should not have taken it to the public roadways, even inside of a gated community the people there have rights to safety from whatever made him crazy and then put himself on the roads there. Really at the most he engaged in willful wreckless driving, but that could cost endorsement deals(ka ching no more). Well too bad because hes not perfect, but when people act on there imperfections they lose, unless they are rich and famous, thats the part I hate, along with the common people(or peasents in these cases) get told by the police whats happening, but wealthy people can hire better lawyers, too much police liability, the dept could be sued. What us commoners need to do is sue when our TIGER rights are taken from us. The point is he brought his private matter to the road with a motor vehicle, Rage, and who knows what other factors. I bet there are plenty of men and women who want their TIGER RIGHTS, but when the cops think they dont have money for a fancy lawyer they dont even get american rights.

  5. The Tiger Woods affair – or rather the american hypocrites at it again. True or not, lay off folks – the man is just that, a man and entitled to his own life complete with his own strength and weakness. As for Grubbs, somehow that unfortunately taints the good name to come out sounding like out for GRABs. Again true or not, the point is person who have genuine feelings for another, just do not this in public. Sure, you stand to make tons of money and all the publicity but do wonder whether it was not all an enticement by you with this end in mind in the first place. As for the American public, have a thought that you are all accomplices if you pay the media that indirectly encourage these folks. Great country and am sure you can all do better than with ill intent, always showcase a man when he is down.

  6. I found some old lyrics from a song that fit the Tiger Woods Saga perfectly.
Singer Elvis Presley (words & music by: Troy Seals)

    "Pieces of My Life"
A water glass full of whiskey
And women that I never knew too well
Lord, the things I've seen and done
Most of which I'd be ashamed to tell

I don't know how it started
But that's what makes a man a man, I guess
Now I'm holdin' on to nothing'
    Tryin' to forget the rest

I'm lookin' back on my life
To see if I can find the pieces
I know that some were stolen
    And some just blew away

Well, I've found the bad parts
    Found all the sad parts
But I guess I threw the best parts away

I'm lookin' back on my life
To see if I can find the pieces
I know that some were stolen
    And some just blew away
Well, I've found the bad parts
    Found all the sad parts
But I guess I threw the best parts away
Lord, the pieces of my life
    They're everywhere, they're everywhere
And the one I miss most of all
Is you and you know who

Lookin' back on my life, Lord
To see if I can find the pieces
Lookin' back on my life, today
To see if I can find the pieces
    Lookin' back on my life
God help me find the pieces

    (Good Luck Tiger)

  7. But the question is why is he or other notable personalities getting treated as if they are above the law, Tiger acted in ways that would have caused several people to be processed by police, but not him. I do agree that the media is partly to blame, the media doesn't follow me around, but I know that if I want fame, glory, and madd money, the media comes as well. He is just a man though, one who knew the media would be all over this stuff from the start of his rise to fame. so i personally dont give the media as an excuse, he knew they would know, but he made his choices.
