WITH THE LAUNCH of its high definition (HD) channel, the Golf Channel is all spiffed up for the new golf year. Golf Channel HD and its standard definition channel will simulcast more than 100 tournaments in 2009.
“For the first time, Golf Channel HD viewers will be able to fully appreciate the stunning beauty of Hawaiian courses like at Kapalua and Turtle Bay or at Scotland’s Loch Lomond,” Golf Channel President Page Thompson said in a statement.
This is great news for golf viewers. That guy in the above photo sure looks happy about it.

Switched to DirecTV about 6 weeks ago and I’m not looking back. HD is great.
Maybe if I’m in the neighborhood, I can stop by.
You know, I have Verizon FiOS, and I ordered their Ultimate Sports HD package to get both the NFL Network and Golf Channel in HD. It was only an extra $5 / month, which wasn’t crazy expensive to me.
But what IS crazy to me is that FiOS is only giving me the non-HD Golf Channel. So while I’m watching the Mercedes and the Golf Channel is hyping how great HD is, I’m left fuming at Verizon.
(As a side note, I’ve repeatedly contacted Verizon about this, and of course, they assure me Golf Channel HD is coming…soonish.)
Bummer, Chris. It doesn’t sound like you’re getting what you paid for (yet). I can understand your frustration.
