I STUMBLED ACROSS THIS VIDEO yesterday when I was searching for something else. The 1977 Open Championship at Turnberry − known as the “Duel in the Sun” − was one of the greatest head-to-head battles in major championship history.
Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus were paired for the final 36 holes and both shot two rounds in the mid 60s as they vied for the Claret Jug. Only one shot separated Watson and the Golden Bear at the end.
This video shows the climactic 72nd hole of the championship. Said the British commentator, “I’ve never seen anything better …”
The 59-year-old Watson will undergo hip replacement surgery on October 2 in Santa Monica, Calif. More here.

Great video of two amazing champions. We’re so numbed by seeing Tiger convert errant shots into money that we sometimes forget the mastery of Jack!
Golf more, work less – it’s a choice. (teetimefreedom.com)
