Going to the Masters: ESPN and Me

Going to the Masters: ESPN and Me 1The first two rounds of the 2008 Masters will be televised by ESPN. The USA Network had covered the opening 36 holes for the past 25 years.

(Maybe they just got tired of the theme music.)

“With the worldwide reach of ESPN, and their demonstrated leadership in new media, we think ESPN is uniquely positioned to showcase the Masters and golf to new audiences,” Augusta National chairman Billy Payne said in a statement.

Mike Tirico will host the ESPN telecast. The Masters will be April 7 through 13.

Hey, Mike, Wait for Me!

In other Masters news that you won’t read elsewhere, I’m going.

And after only four short years in the practice round lottery. I do feel lucky. I got my notification in the mail a few weeks ago –- four practice round tickets for Monday. Anyone else want to go?

If my Ryder Cup ticket application is also accepted, 2008 might be the perfect golf year.

  1. “Anyone else want to go?”

If you’re offering, I’m there, dude. Just let me know how much to put on the check and who to write it to.

However, I can’t believe you don’t have 200 “close” friends that have already hit you up to go. 😉

  2. Let me know more. Always wanted to see Augusta National. I also wanted to tour some courses down South as autumn makes the Midwest golf season come to a close. Any good courses you can recommend in TN or GA?

  3. I can get my passport by April…

    You big tease, you.

Seriously. If you can line up two more bloggers from other countries how cool would that story be? Hell, Tirico would interview us. “…and now, four golf bloggers from four different countries have come together here at Augusta in a pilgrimage…”

    Yeah: let’s do that.

    Sunday’s Off Golf Blog (Canada)
    “…Sorry the Golf is On…”

  4. OK, you’re right. I am a bit of a tease. But if West Coast relatives turn me down (and they probably will), I may offer a ticket to a blogging buddy, which could be someone with a blog or a reader.

Or perhaps I might have an essay contest, “Why I Want to Go to the Masters.” I know, that’s a little dorky. But I would have an ulterior motive — it could give some good material to post.

We have until April to sort this all out. Stay tuned.

  5. The Author’s idea is very sexy. (The IDEA is sexy…just wanted to make that clear.) I could hear the Masters theme song in the background while reading his comment.

“Why I Want to Go to the Masters.”
I’ll tell you what nobody else is willing to admit. I’m selfish, and it’s all about me, me, me. Indulge me! I want, I want, I want! Gimme!

    End of essay.

I kid, of course. OK, maybe not. 😉

Seriously, I really liked The Author’s idea. It would be really cool to pull something like that off.
