2008 Ryder Cup: Bridge to Somewhere

2008 Ryder Cup: Bridge to Somewhere 1OK, HERE’S SOMETHING I CAN’T REMEMBER seeing at a professional golf tournament: a bridge between the practice range and putting green.

That’s right, the PGA of America constructed a green bridge-like overpass so the 24 U.S. and European Ryder Cup players can easily navigate their way OVER the throngs at Valhalla Golf Club. They walk up a flight of steps, cross about a 10-foot section and descend on the other side.

I’ve read that there are an estimated 40,000 spectators at Valhalla this week for the Ryder Cup. That makes the spectator to player ratio 40,000: 24. Hence the bridge.

Many of the spectators were still able to collect autographs as the players, coaches and gurus (Butch Harmon) made their way up and across the bridge.

  1. I would say that’s a pretty good idea considering Azinger is calling for all of The University of Kentucky to show up and cheer for the US. My guess is the gallery will look more like a frat party than a golf tournament
