CHICK EVANS WAS A GOLF GREAT of the early 20th century. A lifelong amateur, Evans was the first player to win the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Open in the same year, 1916. Evans went on to play in 50 consecutive U.S. Amateurs and started a college scholarship fund for caddies. His legacy lives on.
Named after the golf legend, the Evans Scholars Foundation has grown into the nation’s largest privately funded scholarship program. It’s the sole charity beneficiary of the BMW Championship and received $2.4 million in proceeds from last year’s tournament.
Whereas most automotive sponsors give a vehicle to a player who scores a hole-in-one, BMW will award a full Evans scholarship in the name of any player who aces the 16th hole at Bellerive Country Club during the championship.
